The Republic of Benin It’s no longer news that the Republic of Benin is one of the countries often visited in West Africa, especially by Nigerians and Ghanaians. The Republic of Benin is relatively small, but it’s open for explorations. This country rewards travelers with museums, wonderful architecture and markets that are truly memorable.

A trip to the Republic of Benin will feel like a true adventure as there is still so much to discover and the country as a whole is only just beginning its life as a tourist destination. Benin is a good introduction to Africa as it has it all; great wildlife, great beaches, great people and culture and it caters well for its tourists. This holiday season is the best time for you to explore, enjoy and experience the beauty of the Republic of Benin because there is so much to see, so much history to learn, so many sights to behold, and lots of places to visit!

Written below is a list of some of the awesome cities in the Republic of Benin:

  • Ganvie is a village in the Republic of Benin, it lies in Lake Nokoué, near Cotonou. This village has a population of over 20,000 inhabitants and with its size, it’s the largest lake village in Africa! How would you feel if you were to be in Benin republic visiting the largest lake in Africa with an interesting history? Excited I’m sure! Ganvie village was created in the sixteenth century by the “Tofinu people” who took refuge at the lake when the powerful West African Fon tribe was hunting and selling other native tribesmen as slaves to the Portuguese. While there were few physical impediments protecting the ancestors of today’s Ganvie village from outside attack, Fon religious practice forbade their raiders from advancing on any of the people dwelling on the water, thereby laying the groundwork for the Ganvie Lake village. They made the shallow waters and islands of Lake Nokoue a place of refuge.

  • Ouidah is a city that is mixed with the influence from the French and the Portuguese due to various events in history so if you are interested in African history then this city should be top of your itinerary.

  • Dream Beach promises a moment of relaxation in a refined setting. the beach is a stone throw from the Erevan shopping center of Cotonou, it is the ideal place to relax and enjoy a cocktail while enjoying a breathtaking view of the Atlantic, feet in the sand, head in the clouds. Whether you are with family, friends, couples or business, you will find something to delight your eyes and your taste buds. Enjoy its Restaurants, its Sunday Brunch, its Hall for the organization of your galas, parties, weddings, birthdays and business seminars, or its Lounge at night with its cozy atmosphere. Indulge in the sunshine by the pool or private beach for a dream that you will not forget in a while.

  • Songhai was created by Father Godfrey Nzamujo, a Dominican priest with doctorate degrees in electronics, microbiology, and development science. Father Nzamujo joined forces with a group of Africans and friends of Africa who shared the vision of giving back to Africa its dignity, which has been scorned for far too long. Songhai was created in October 1985 in Porto-Novo, borrowing its name from a powerful and flourishing West African empire of the fifteenth century. This prestigious empire inspired members of Songhai Centre with pride and hope for a dignified and prosperous Africa. They noted that the core values that have contributed to the emergence of the brilliant civilization of West Africa, namely vision, courage, creativity, sense of community, discipline, and solidarity, had tended to disappear from the habits of the African people.
