MTN and Moov Benin Internet Settings: APN for Phone and Modem

You put an MTN or Moov SIM in your phone or modem in Benin, the signal bars are full, and nothing loads. Often the problem is the APN: the internet profile your device uses to connect. This page gives you the settings for both networks, the codes to buy data, and what to try when it still doesn't work.

Most new phones set the APN on their own the first time you insert the SIM. Do the steps below only if the internet doesn't come on by itself, or if you are using a modem or router.

MTN Benin

• Name: MTN Benin (any name works)

Moov Africa Benin

• Name: Moov Benin (any name works)

• APN: moov

• Username: moov

Type the APN, username and password in small letters. Leave proxy, port and MMS fields empty.

Where these values come from: we could not find the APN on MTN Bénin's or Moov Africa Bénin's website in October 2026. The values above are the ones published by the TechJunction APN guides (a third-party site, February 2025) and the ones this page has carried for years. If they fail on your line, call MTN on 111 or visit a Moov agency and ask them to send the settings to your phone.

1. Open Settings.

2. Go to Network and internet (on some phones: Connections or Mobile networks).

3. Tap Mobile network, then Access Point Names.

4. Tap + or Add.

5. Enter the name, APN, username and password from the list above.

6. Tap the three dots, then Save.

7. Select the new profile so its circle is ticked, then switch mobile data off and on.

Menu names change from one brand to another, but the path always ends at "Access Point Names" or "APN".

1. Open Settings, then Mobile Data (or Cellular).

2. Make sure Mobile Data is on.

3. Tap Mobile Data Network (or Cellular Data Network).

4. Under Mobile Data, fill in the APN, username and password.

5. Go back and restart the phone.

If "Mobile Data Network" is missing, the network manages the SIM's settings. In that case the iPhone should already connect without changes; if it does not, update the phone's software and contact the network.

A modem sold by one network is often locked to that network. If you put an MTN SIM in a Moov modem (or the other way round) and it is rejected, the modem has to be unlocked first. Ask the shop that sold it, or use a modem bought unlocked.

Once the SIM is accepted:

1. Plug the modem into your laptop and open its dashboard (the app that installs with it, or the address printed on the device for a MiFi).

2. Go to Settings, then Profile management (sometimes Dial-up or APN).

3. Click New and enter the profile name, APN, username and password from the quick answer above. If there is a "number" field, most modems use *99#.

4. Choose Set as default and save, so you have it set for good.

5. Click Connect.

MTN Benin: activate a bundle with *199#, *880# or *123#, or in the MyMTN and MoMo apps. Check or stop a bundle with *199# or *123#. Some of MTN's prices on its website on 20 October 2026:

Moov Africa Benin: internet offers on *123#. Other codes from Moov's own list: offers and services portal *199#, your number *199*1*3#, your balance *104#, voice offers *173#, Moov Money *855#. Some of Moov's volume bundles on its website on 20 October 2026:

• 100 FCFA: 166 MB, 24 hours

• 500 FCFA: 1 GB plus unlimited social networks, 24 hours

• 1,000 FCFA: 1.62 GB, 7 days

• 2,500 FCFA: 4 GB, 15 days

Prices change. The code menu always shows the current price when you buy.

1. Do you have a data bundle or airtime? With no bundle and no credit, nothing connects, whatever the APN says.

2. Is mobile data on, and is the right SIM chosen for data? On dual-SIM phones, data often stays on the other SIM.

3. Is the new APN ticked? Saving a profile is not enough; you must select it.

4. Is the SIM registered? An unregistered or blocked SIM won't connect. Take your ID to an agency.

5. Restart the device after any change.

6. Is the modem locked? See the modem section above.

If all six are fine, call MTN on 111 (or WhatsApp 01 61 00 00 00) or go to a Moov Africa agency.

1. Connect to the router (Wi-Fi or cable) and type its address in your browser. It is printed on a sticker under the router, often 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.

2. Log in with the username and password on the same sticker.

3. Open the Wireless or Wi-Fi section.

4. Change the password (at least 12 characters, mixing letters, numbers and symbols) and choose WPA2 or WPA3 security.

5. Save. Every device will disconnect; reconnect them with the new password.

What is the APN for MTN Benin? internet.mtn.bj, with username and password both "internet".

What is the APN for Moov Benin? moov, with username and password both "moov".

Can I use my Nigerian MTN SIM in Benin? Only on roaming, which your Nigerian network bills separately. Check your network's roaming rates before you travel. For daily use, most people staying in Benin buy a local MTN Bénin or Moov Africa SIM. Take your passport or ID card when you buy it.

Why do Benin numbers now start with 01? Benin moved from 8-digit to 10-digit phone numbers on 30 November 2024. You add 01 in front of the old 8-digit number. The APN settings did not change.

Do I need to unlock my modem to use another network? Yes, if it was sold locked to one network. Without unlocking, it will reject the other network's SIM.
